STEVE THE STUD

To start this story I will go back a few days. Our van has been acting up every now and then. It would not start every time you turned the key. Sometimes it would and then sometimes it would just click and not turn over. So my Dad was procrastinating with fixing it but then last night we went to the store and then it would not start. IT finally did after about 8 or 9 tries. Then when Dad got home from work he tried to start it and it would not do it at all. So my Dad jacked it up and was checking out the starter. He called the auto parts stores and they said it would be 120$ to get a new starter. He called Steve Taff (our cousin the fix it man) and asked his advice. Steve said if you can get it started and bring it here then I think I can fix it. Problem was it would not start. Steve suggested slaming the car door as Dad turned it over. It did not work on the driver side but when Dad tried it with the passenger side it started. Pretty funny huh? So we drove to Steves and Dad and him started messing with the starter while Jay and me played with Courtney. They took the starter apart and cleaned the contacts on it. It still would not work so they took it all the way off and found one part on the inside that was a little worn out. Unfortunatly every place that would have the part was closed allready. So Steve being the genius that he is goes hunting for something that would work. He finds a door hinge that is about the same thickness of metal and decides he can make the part. He went to work with the grinder and saw and he made fireworks everywhere. It was pretty cool to watch. So Steve made this part and put it on the starter and said "well it will either work or it won't". And then My Dad tried it and sure enough it fired up. So instead of buying a starter for 120$ we got the van fixed for a door hinge. If that is not the coolest deal then the fact that I got to ride the fourwheeler with my Dad is definatly pretty cool.
